1) Add the colouring cream to the developer and shake well to mix. 2) Apply the mix to your hair, starting from the roots then throughout the lengths and ends. Leave in hair for 30 mins. 3) Rinse your hair until the water runs clear. Use the Caring Gentle pH Shampoo to remove any excess residue. 4) Apply a halzenut amount of the Lightweight Nourishing Mask. Leave in for 3 mins then rinse your hair. Use the mask once a week until your next colour for soft, shiny, lively hair.

I agree with the one star reviews. This has been my hair dye for over a decade and it’s now rubbish! I left it in longer as I saw forum suggest that but it still left roots with green tinge and the acid is destroying my hair. I have always received compliments on my hair and now it’s looking like a botched home job.

What Happened to This Once Great Product?

I’ve been using L’Oréal Excellence Dark Brown for years and have always been happy with the results—until my most recent experience in October/November. When I opened the box, the formula seemed off; it was runny, and when I applied it to my roots, it turned a dirty, murky brown-green within minutes. I thought it might darken as it developed, but after leaving it on for the usual time, my greys were tinted green, and my natural dark hair had a sickly undertone. At first, I blamed myself—was it product buildup, porous hair, or even minerals in my water? I let it fade naturally, avoiding harsh products to fix it. However, today I checked the reviews before trying a different shade and was shocked to see how many people experienced the same issue. It’s clear this is a problem with the new formula, not user error. The formula issues people describe—runny consistency, green tones, uneven coverage, and difficulty adhering to greys—are exactly what I experienced. This product was once reliable, but the quality has dropped dramatically. L’Oréal, what has happened to this product? Why haven’t these issues been addressed? Loyal customers like me deserve better than an untested formula that leaves their hair green and patchy. Please investigate this and listen to the feedback.

New L’Oréal Excellence formula is disappointing

I have been using L’Oréal Excellence for decades to cover my resistant grey hair with excellent results and would tell anyone that would listen it is the best by far BUT that all changed with this new formula. I have used the new formula twice now and find it has a strange texture and it does not adhere to my grey hair resulting in a muted colouration that fades quickly over time. Sadly, I will no longer be purchasing.

Great product but colour matching isn't good.

I bought L'Oreal Excellence number 3. My hair is the same as the picture on the box. Yet when I use it, my hair looks black. So I let it grow out foe 6 months. You could see my natural hair was lighter. So then I tried number 4. Same thing! It's been a few mi ths now and I am going to try number 5 even though on the box, her hair looks a lot lighter than mine actually is. I let it go a few months so I can see what my natural colour is. Otherwise I dye it every 4 weeks.
