Breville the Original '74 Sandwich Press

Had ours for years and love it💛 best ever 💛

I had one many years ago it was my aunty”s and she gave it to me when I moved house it survived until 2010 not bad. This one is so strong looking and sturdy, just like the 74 so I’m very impressed.

I had the 'original original' back in the 70s. I remember toasty brown jaffles that were crisp and crunchy. I saw this jaffle maker in the shops and thought it was time to rekindle that memory. Unfortunately, it doesn't meet expectation. I'm not sure whether I have a faulty one or not but the jaffles are soft, barely toasted after 10minutes of cooking and certainly not how I remember the OG was. The plus is the size of the plates and the cutter which cleanly cuts the jaffles in half. But I'm missing that toasty goodness despite following the instructions. Lack lustre results. I'm not sure there would be enough heat in the plates to cook the apple turnovers that I used to cook with my original one either. I haven't tried this yet.

The Original '74 makes great jaffles and has a non stick coating that is actually non stick. Breville makes good products with great warranty support and the Original '74 is no exception.

A neat piece of kitchen equipment, classy looking and super simple to use. Delicious results. Compact and easy to store. Love it.

Perfect for a toasted sandwich

This toaster is great, perfectly sealed sandwich and cut . The plates of the toaster are one piece so there is no where for spills to get stuck or leak into the cavity. its non stick and cleans up perfectly. I love it, use it every day and the recipes cards are great bonus.

Very solidly made unit. Well designed. Toasts quickly and cuts easily into halves. Makes great looking (and tasting) toasties.

Small, compact and stylish - and creates those pillows of oozy melted cheese, just like you remember! Seals the edges so they are nice and crunchy, cuts it in half for you, and leaves the centres puffy and crispy... YUM!

Hey everyone, I just had to share my excitement about the new toastie maker I picked up from the post office on Saturday. Ever since then, we haven’t stopped making toasties! They are so delicious, and I absolutely love the bigger size. The toasties come out beautiful and crispy every time – scrumptious! Cleaning is super easy too! Even if it spills, it’s no big deal because it doesn’t get into any tiny crevices. You just wipe the counter, and it’s good as new. Maybe the spills are just happening to us because we put in too much cheese – but is there such a thing as too much cheese? I didn’t think so either! Putting that aside, using this toastie maker feels like a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It reminds me of watching my mum or grandma make these delicious treats. Now, I can do it myself and keep the tradition going! As for my next creation, I’m thinking of trying blueberry with camembert. My son just frowned at that one – haha! Enjoy, folks, you won’t regret this purchase!

Love it I had jaffles since the eighties

I grew up using one of these. They are great. We grew up eating jaffles. One of our most common fillings were tin spaghetti and cheese or baked beans and cheese but my favourite was leftover beef, pork, chicken or lamb bolognaise sauce and cheese jaffle. They are Yum and a great snack. This was the design we grew up with and notice the 74, well before I was born but its a commemoration of the original design and works pretty well except it has one heat setting only, which is great for kids but could be multi-purpose with adjustable heat settings which is where the modern one comes in though if you really want multi-purpose, the flat base sandwich press is better suited. Breville also has these. I've not had the modern jaffle iron but ive had the original and the flat plate sandwich press and they both still work perfectly decades later though i did buy a new sandwich press a number of years back as i lost the other when moving house.

husband requested to a classic sandwich maker. he's didn't like the old one that we have. so I bought what he requested. obviously, he loves it.

Works perfectly. Don't know what some others are complaining about, heats up and cooks a jaffle just like I remember. Give it a minute, let it do its thing and you'll be delighted.

Have used this multiple times now. The toasties comes out perfect each time. Easy to use, clean and store. Comes with a box of recipe cards that provide a range of savoury and sweet creations. I'm in love!

After a shaky start where we got home with our purchase only to find there was a crack in a bracket then we had to return it to another store for replacement because the original store had run out we finally made our first Jaffle for many years and all is now good. Always pays to inspect when unpacking.

Product quality is fine, but cooking time is way out - says about 3 minutes, but takes at least double that time - maybe 3 times!

I am the owner of the first Sandwich Maker having received it as a wedding present in 1975. It is still in use but it is so annoying that the bread size of today is too large for the old machine. I saw The Original ‘74 advertised and because I loved the old one so much, I ordered the new one. I used it today and it was excellent. Cooked sandwiches exactly like the old machine but is larger and the bread slices of today actually fit the machine. No juices leaking out, toasted very well and crispy. Thank you Breville for bringing this machine into use again in a larger size, after 48 years of the old one, just love the new one 😊

Great product, works well

Broke the plastic latch on a cheaper model that replaced an old one that the plates lost their non stick after a few years. This one has long handles and a metal latch, so really easy to press and hold in place. Also, the outer edge of the plates are generous so seal the outer edge perfectly. So far, best toasty maker I’ve owned for a long while.

So far so good. Heats up quickly, toasts crunchy and easy to clean.
