How Emla Skin Numbing Cream Works: Emla helps make your skin feel numb for a short time, blocking the pain signals from only the area of skin where the cream is applied. Emla is a topical anaesthetic cream that contains lidocaine (lignocaine) and prilocaine. It is applied directly to the skin to help lessen the pain experienced during common skin laser treatments such as the removal of unwanted hair. Emla cream needs to be applied at least 1 hour before your procedure. • Ensure that the skin is clean and dry • Press out sufficient quantity of cream onto the site of the procedure • Do not spread out the cream • Use adhesive tape to stick plastic film such as cling wrap to the area • Cover Emla cream so that you get a thick layer underneath • Remove the cling wrap immediately before the procedure • Wipe off the cream and clean the area with alcohol • Do not to exceed the maximum dose • You can find out more about using Emla in the Consumer Medicine Information leaflet or by talking to your doctor or pharmacist DO NOT APPLY TO LARGE AREAS OF THE BODY, EXCEPT ON THE ADVICE OF A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL. • Adults must not use more than 60g (2 x 30g tubes). Refer to the dosage table within the Instructions for Use leaflet for maximum children's doses. • Extra care should be taken where larger quantities of Emla are required, adults must not use more than 60g of Emla spread over an area of not larger than 600cm2 (the size of an A4 piece of paper).
