All I wanted to do was set up chromecast, and so far I’ve spent about two hours logging into Google and setting up Google home because that was in the (very scant) instructions in the box. So annoying!
It's great until it stops working. I have to reset it literally every 1-2 weeks without fail, and even then half the time it won't work on the first try. Volume will stop working then it interferes with my original tv remote to work when the google remote forgets how to work out of nowhere. Always a vicious cycle of troubleshooting as to why it stops and then has trouble connecting back up and registering the volume buttons for tv setup and can't find the code. Doing hard resets is a pain because I have to set it up as a new device. Had to do that a couple of times now. The old chromecast was way better..
Best steamer on the market. Purchased at a good price from JBHiFI.
It works perfectly. I can download all my streaming apps, sign in was super easy. My TV didn't have a remote and this works amazing with it. Got it on sale.
Compare to our existing chromecast, the Google TV Streamer 4K does not cast well from notebook computer. OK using smartphones. Pretty slow overall to achieve casting.
Excellent packaging. Easy set-up. Works extremely well on older LG smart televisions.
Can't output audio to more than one bluetooth headphones simultaneously. These work good with my other company's streaming device. Both show connected, but audio comes through only one.
Used to be able to get a HD Chromecast for 69 AUD , Discontinued a perfect product to sell us this for 159 AUD because it has 4K, although my TV doesn't. Okay I'm loyal , still bought it. Well , opened the box , and no HDMI cable , the geniuses changed the design from being a simple thing with everything built in to this . Double the price and double the headache and apparently it's better.
I have Bluetooth controlled light bulbs and power point (TPG), the Google TV streamer/Home was unable to stand alone. The streamer constantly tried to connect, interrupting its other features.
Awesome little device for its price! Perfect for streaming movies online etc.
Recently I bought the google tv streamer from jbhifi at bundall, after the price drop to $98. It was so easy to setup and easy to use. The performance is 5 stars. It as improved the tv in my man cave to make it a very smart tv.
Previous model was a lot better. Connection issues, major lag with remote, ads, even with Ethernet connection continual lag when watching. Menu screens continually freeze, suggest tapo plug to make it easier to reset
Went to Oxley store, they said price was $119 and I was incorrect about the online price advertised as $98. Hey even checked and said I was incorrect about the wrong. Paid $119, got home checked again still $98 online. Now number 98 in a very slow phone hold.
This is the single worst tv streamer I have ever used. Constant issues with the device, audio issues, issues where the device turns on but won’t transmit the video to my screen while audio works.
Worst thing ever! Nothing was wrong with the originalchromecast, worked perfectly fine. Now this thing!!! Fixing something that wasn't broken in the first place! As soon as you play spotify on it, the spotify app on your phone automatically mutes so you have to go into your phone and turn the volume back up. Some movie streams wontcast at all! When you mirror your phone (or device), it won't allow the device to change volume "this device does not support volume controls" aparantly??? Then you use the volume button on the remote and it automatically mutes the volume AGAIN, so you have to manually go into your device settings. Had it for a week, now it won't turn on. Just a blinking LED taking its time doing nothing! Not plug and play at all! $160 wasted and will be returni g it. Downloaded a screen mirror app and it works better! Just seems that technology doesn't technology anymore. Bring back blockbuster! DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED OVER TAXED DOLLARS!!!!!!!
It's turned our 13 year old 65" into a smart TV. No real complaints.
If you already have a Chromecast don't waste your money as it's not really an upgrade !!!
Google TV is a step back for Android TV, Android TV is great because of its customisability and amount of apps and ability to download anything. But then google needs to put ads everywhere to sell movies that you will never buy, and now with Google TV every recommendation on the home screen is controlled by google, unlike Android TV where apps had control of the recommedations.
You think its plug n play but you dont get a HDMI cable to plug into your tv so its useless and cant be used when you first purchase it 🤬
Went in to jb told them I need something I can put foxtel go on. They advised me that the Google streamer is the only thing I could get it on. So me believing them I brought it. Got home set it all up and what do I find can't sign into foxtel. I have to Chromecast it from my to the Google streamer. Yet I had the old Google Chromecast and could get it on there without Chromecasting it from anything I just downloaded the app and it was cheaper.
The worst technology experience. Plug it into the TV, open the app on my Pixel 9, constant failures during setup with no advice on how to proceed. Attempt a manual setup, it demands to download a 400MB update, will not proceed without it. Fails two more times then finally downloads on the third attempt. After 25 minutes of "installing" it fails again. Absolutely useless device.
It is constantly crashing, in the middle of watching movies or sports it will just go into ambient mode for no reason. It's great when it's not crashing.
Device is good but the remotes suck. The amount of money I’ve spent replacing the remote because they ALL fall victim to draining batteries in days I could have honestly bought an Apple TV device instead. Can use the app too but have to constantly close and open the remote due to it disconnecting. Frustrating user experience.
Just for anyone coming here and seeing the previous review about kayo - kayo is now released on the TV streamer and available.
I am so happy. I just got one yesterday and set it up. That took a bit and had to reset up all my apps passwords which was the worst part. But now so happy. I had been tortured by Fetch box since Teltra stopped working. I wish I had doneit sooner.
I wish we could give Zero! I previously have used chromecast and the HDM1 cable WAS INCLUDED. This was SO frustrating to buy from JBhifi and to get home only to find CABLE IS NOT INCLUDED! ANOTHER TRIP BACK TO SHOP AGAIN! VERY FRUSTRATING. Seriously, for $159 surely YOU CAN INCLUDE THE CABLE!!
The Google TV 4K streamer is fast, smooth, and has a clean interface—easily one of the best in terms of navigation and content discovery. But for $160, it's unacceptable that it lacks basic features like system-wide volume levelling. Competing devices like the Firestick include this out of the box at a much lower price. For people who watch mixed content (dialogue-heavy shows, loud movies, streaming apps), this is a major miss. Solid device, but Google needs to lift its game on core functionality.
I bought this several days ago. Overall super happy with it from a functionality perspective. I needed something like this to hook up to my FancyLeds sync box in order for the led lights at the rear of the TV to light up in sync with the picture. The only gripe is that I'm unable to download the Binge app onto the home screen and therefore be able to stream Binge via this device. Being part of the Google ecosystem though compensates for that. Has microphone button to use Google Assistant, and the loading of apps and also movies etc. via streaming services is super fast. I haven't noticed any lag, and the image is crisp and clear 4K. I have connected ethernet cable to my modem, and am going to upgrade the cable to a Cat8 cable to increase data transfer speeds, but doing that more for my own benefit than to say that the device isn't hitting the mark already. The remote is compact and while plastic it doesn't feel flimsy, and it is easy to use and navigate with.
Small improvement over the previous google tv dongle generation. Remote is slightly more considerable, although still plastic with not many more functions. Can do beeping of remote to help find it. For the review that said Kayo wasn't available this is wrong, it is along with mostly ever other app you can think of. Ethernet connection is a bonus also. Dolby atmos would be good if I had a capable sound system. Overall happy but should be priced more around $100, the bump in new generation is not enough to justify the nearly 2x price of gen1.
Doesn't work with Foxtel still waiting for a reason?
Overall, a good streaming experience, however as others have said some of the apps are not updated to the current android version. As these apps are not up to date, you cannot use these apps. When Foxtel was asked last November when the app would be updated, they indicated it would be at least 2 to 3 months before this rectified.
