Illumination's Minions & Monsters Quest for Monsters

This playset was only okay for my kids. They were excited to play with it at first, but after one play session they lost interest and haven't gone back to it. The toy is pretty simple and doesn't offer a lot of activities or features to keep kids engaged for very long. The quality is fine, but there just isn't much to do with it once the novelty wears off. It may be a good choice for big Minions fans, but it didn't hold my children's attention.

This place that was fun overall And definitely kept my child entertained for a while. The minion theme is very cute and the surprise monster element added excitement during playtime. The colors and designs are eye catching and the figures included were a nice touch. That said I expected a little bit more interaction from the playset itself. Some of the features felt limited after the initial excitement wore off and it did not hold attention as long as I had hoped. The pieces are decent quality, but a few extra accessories or interactive elements would have made it a lot better. It is still a fun toy for minion fans are younger kids with imaginative play but it may not keep older kids engaged for very long.

Thank goodness for the instructions bc I definitely had a hard time, figuring out how to maneuver this toy. It came completely together out of the box, it was figuring out how to actually work it that was the difficult part. The “spell” to reveal the monster was really cool until we realized you could only do the “spell” once since the liquid doesn’t do the whole reveal after the initial “spell” even if you kept the liquid it came with. Figuring out how to get the actual monster out of the play-set deemed to be more difficult than I initially thought it would be. The toy says 4+, I would say it’s alittle advanced for a 4yr old todo without supervision and or help. Overall fun to open, unfortunately the playset is pretty useless after the initial “spell” goes through and the monster comes out. The play-set is not the most kid friendly to play with, it’s cooler to look at. Thankfully it comes with some figurines for the monster so that’s pretty cool.

My children absolutely loved it, so that makes it a win. My minion obsessed youngest was excited with the magic and to be able to push buttons and turn. The adult experience was a bit lacking - it was surprisingly difficult to get the base out of the box (the cardboard risers blocked easily moving the twist locks), and then some of the turning and lift off options were a little imperfect to execute. At minimum, my kids got some fun figurines that seem like they’ll last, and magic to enjoy.

This toy book is a super fun anh easy to play family board game that perfectly captures the goofy energy of the movies, making it awesome to young kids but a bit too simple and luck based for older players. Highly recommend for picking this up for your nest family game night if you have little kids at home.

The toy came with step by step picture instructions, which was helpful. The downside is that kids don’t always follow the steps. My child, who is 6, turned the top ahead of time and revealed the monster before we even poured the liquid. 🤦🏻‍♀️ He found it to be extremely funny. One thing we couldn’t figure out was how to remove the monster. There were instructions on how to unscrew the top, but no matter how we tried (clockwise and counter-clockwise), it would not come off. So now, the monster sits in its chamber, nicely secured. I would not necessarily recommend this toy for purchase, unless the child you are purchasing it for is a great Minion fan. After the reveal, there is not much else to be done with it. You just play with the figurines.

It was hard to take the playset out of the packaging. Needs adult to take them out. There’s not much play time with this toy. My kids was only interested what was the surprise monster toy that they will unleash. To unleash the monster, they had to pour the dark liquid inside the playset and the monster will unleashed. That was all about this toy. The only thing that interested me is that the liquid came out clear when you pour out to clean the playset.

Ok .. so I bought my 5 year old the Mr. beast toy for Christmas which is very similar to this. You get a “potion” basically and that allows you to see what it is that the machine “created”. Both my 2 year old and 5 year old were equally intrigued. After you pour in the liquid, you turn the top and the toy appears in the chamber. Super cute idea and it’s fun to experiment, however I wish there was something else you could do with the big plastic chamber once you’re finished. My 5 year old loved the character he received, but asked what would happen if he tried for the other one and got the same one? It was a relatively easy pick up and my 2 year old played with the door on the “machine” for about 20 minutes … putting different toys in, closing it up and then revealing it to us.. so that was cute, now I just don’t know what I’ll do with the giant plastic piece that carries the toy in it. I feel bad tossing it, but maybe others have found a better use?

The Minions 3 Quest for Monster play set is sturdily built and small enough to carry around, however it leaks and the instructions are not great in regards to how to set it up and make it work. Also, it leaks which they seem to know as they tell you to put it on a leak proof tray. Overall my small son was not overly impressed with this toy. Sadly this one is a miss.

Super simple and fun for my minion loving boy! It isn’t complicated at all and is almost like a fun science experiment to see which monster you will get. Small enough that it’s easy to store away when not being played with and it’s not just in the way all the time. 10/10!!
