What are PHAs?The new generation of AHAs! (obtained by a fermentation process from micro organisms). PHAs are made up of larger molecules (and a higher molecular structure) than other exfoliating acids (such as AHAs and BHAs) meaning that they do not penetrate into the skin as deeply and work instead on the surface of the skin which is why they are perfect for sensitive skin to achieve true exfoliation while keeping the skin barrier healthy. They work by breaking down the glue between the dead skin cells so they are shed off with ease to reveal a smooth, glowing skin surface and are a gentle slow release alternative to AHAs. PHAs are also humectants (water binding, water loving like HA) so they will also help to hydrate during the exfoliating process for comfort during and after exfoliation.
