Excellent Speed Champions Entry

It is not often I find myself purchasing sets within the speed champions theme as I typically am less interested in the more typical 'fast' vehicles common within the line-up. However, having seen the off-road and rugged nature of the Land Rover I knew I would be interested. Overall, it is a great finished product with tons of surprising detail such as the running boards, snorkel, etc. The build itself was also great and far more substantial, thereby making the set a great value for me as well. Lastly, I will mentioned that although I was initially less interested in the jaguar it has really grown on me. The blue really pops on the completed car. Overall, after such a great build experience and finished product I will likely be returning to the speed champions theme much sooner than anticipated. Amazing set!

enjoyable despite initial feeling of blasé

This set initially reminded me of the Mercedes dual set (with the Defender being comparable to the Mercedes SUV) and the Project 7 reminding me a lot of the McLaren Elva. Those sets weren't terrible, but it just seemed a bit plain for the Speed Champions sets. When I saw the preview pics of this set, I was a bit underwhelmed. But, of course, I have all of the other retail SC sets, so I was going to get it and build it regardless. My initial thoughts were unfounded, to say the least. Where the Mercedes kit was lacking in terms of interesting build details and the built models looking rather boring in comparison to the other SC sets, this one stands out a bit. First, there are some newer techniques for the build, especially the Land Rover, which doesn't use the 8 stud body frame that most of the sets use now. Also, I noticed that while most recent builds have been symmetrical (with the exception of the cabins), both of these cars have a number of tweaks in the design that make one side just a smidge different than the other, which added some additional interesting build moments. The Elva ended up looking really plain, likely due to the details in the blue bricks sort of blending together. The Project 7 avoids this by having details such as the 7 decals and black details breaking up the blueness. So, while not my favorite of the dual sets, it's far better than I had anticipated, which is a win in my estimation.

Fantastic set

Really great set very accurate and I had a blast building it with my girlfriend! Would highly recommend and hope to see more trucks or larger size SUVs in the future!

Recommend half the set

I appreciate the build of the Land Rover Defender. The roll bars, steps and rack are cool features as well as the round tile lights. Overall a cool car. The Jaguar however is my least favorite car I’ve built from Lego. Don’t get me wrong, it looks cool but… the structure for which pieces stay on is lacking. Pieces fall off constantly and will likely be disassembled for parts. It’s a simple car that did not strike me as amazing.
