Opel Mobile TouchFlip 4G

WhatsApp doesn’t work. Application expired March 2026 and it won’t update.

Too many apps- we only needed a 4G basic phone, as we do not access the WWW or YouTube using an unsecure traceable phone that pings our location every :15 seconds. Fed up with WfFi- based 'updates' that seizes the phone until you download the same. We also do not use WiFi, not on the phone nor in our home. Everything is ethernet and secure with military grade modems and routers. We deleted You Tube, Android, and e-mail access to the phones, and also hotspotting. While the quality of the device is excellent, there is too much extraneous apps and programs that we have already contacted Opel about on how to delete these permanently. The NZ$129 Opel Flip seems to not have as much un-needed apps and programs, but is still listed as having some of the same as their NZ$199 flip phone.

On first appearance this phone appears to work ok, but after a few days it starts to have random problems. This was my experience: I bought this for my elderly mother to use, I'm tech savy and was hoping this would be a good solution as it was capable of Video calling via whatsapp without any pin numbers or logins to manage. After setting up Whatsapp it then resets all the whatsapp settings a few days later and returns to initial setup again. and then 3rd time a few days later... No idea why. After noticing that message alerts to not send notifications or sounds for no apparent reason, A reboot was required that fixed this. Then an hour later, message alerts on the outside light do not clear off after being read. Another reboot done to fix this. After about a week of use, the messages app fails to load and displays an error that it cannot load messages. Another reboot and it then completely dies with an error about possible corruption on the OS. Then stuck in a reboot loop and no way to recover it. I don't have time for this rubbish. Going back to using an old iPhone for my Mum in Assistive Access mode.

Very poor product, barely lasted 18 months before the battery swelled and disintegrated the phone from the inside. Aside from that who exactly decreed that this was a great phone for seniors? The volume slider/ring control is ridiculously placed for older fat fingers, and mum continually inadvertently silenced the ring and call volume causing her much distress. The response from Opel (their overseas call centre) has been appalling. avoid this product!

unfortunately you have to download an app to be able to download social media or spotify and I only downloaded one app so I could download instagram and now there's no space on it and you can't move the apps to SD storage so yeah get it if you wanna only be able to call and text on it.

Quirky little phone. Has all I need. Agree with a lot of reviews,though,it could be better with a slightly better battery,1400ma is a bit small,I think. A 2000ma battery would just get it over the line for me,hence only the 4 star rating. That said,I'm really happy with this phone.

Crap phone - no user friendly as trying to find how to change anything takes forever to find and always having to refer to instruction book and even then it doesn't let you know. Short battery life compared to previous mobile phone. Doesn't delete the light when you have read your emails so always checking to see if a new email has come through. Now after 6 months the ring tone doesn't work. Worst mobile ever bought and will sending back.

A flip phone good for older people. With a touch screen finding contacts is easy and just by closing, it hangs up which may be forgotten.

Poor battery life -- cannot survive a whole day outside without any use. If I used the data or hotspot it would die much quicker. I also bought it for its Whatsapp function, and it took 3 tries to get it to work. Furthermore I have to use it as a companion because I can't save my Whatsapp chat history otherwise, which completely defeats the purpose. One time I was bored and tried the FM radio function -- did not work. Also struggle to charge it on the dock.

Bought this phone from office works and returned as was very unhappy with the lagging and the touch . WhatsApp is there but due to the lagging it's more pain than convenience. Might be ok for some people but with the overall lagging and that too in new phone I was wondering what would happen after few months of usage . Buy basic phone instead of wait for nokia to come back with their feature phones again

Great mobile phone I highly recommend this phone!!

Perfect for my elderly father. He loves flip phones and this model he can keep in touch with his daughter in USA via the WhatsAp application thats already loaded on there. The ringer is nice and loud and the contacts list is easy to manage compared to other flip phones, this is just brilliant.

Great little phone for those that want something dumber than a smartphone but smarter than a dumbphone.

I bought this phone for and elderly family member who had to update her phone because 3G was being phased out. There wasn’t much choice but I felt this was the best choice because it it simple to use for someone who has no interest in smart phones and just wants a phone. It has some great features and i commend Opel for providing an affordable phone with a charging cradle. The only real downside was that we couldn’t get the emergency location feature working and is could be easier to turn the sound off and just have it vibrate when it rings. Otherwise a great little phone

Works great. Unlike the last model there is a front camera so Whatsappp works fine. Very pleased at this stage and I would recommend it.

Perfect mobile for elderly, easy to use and has an SOS button at the back.

Great phone for senior seniors but has a software issue that the green envelope on front doesn’t go away when voicemail has been retrieved

Bought for my dad. He can use just fine to make and answer calls. I did not find it intuitive to add to the address book - had to read the instructions. It's not intuitive for seniors on deleting SMS's. You have to delete in two areas in order for the Message Received icon to disappear. He does complain its not loud enough for him when talking on the phone - shame it doesnt have a speaker function like smart phones. Also, the battery does lose its charge very quickly. But for a basic phone to make/receive calls, its ok.

Easy to use and set-up. Minimum pre-installed apps (WhatsApp, Facebook & Youtube). Recommend purchasing the mini SD Card 32gb storage to store your pictures and/or other files. If you really want to, you can download other apps (research online where people install these).

Very easy to set up and use. It's a perfect phone for seniors who only want a phone for calls and text, although it does have WhatsApp etc. pre-loaded. Calls are answered by simply opening the phone and then ended by closing it. Buttons are raised, separated and easy to press. It's an excellent, simple phone with good features. The JB Hi-fi team member who directed me towards this phone rather than the same-priced Nokia I was looking at did a great job by showing me how this one would be much easier to use.

Bought this phone for my elderly father, some great features for someone who can only use one hand post stroke. The phone has a touch screen, is a flip, and also has large buttons, so its quite accessible. Menus are simple, You can add photos to a number of contacts for those with cognitive / memory issues, to aide easy recognition. You can disable the side volume buttons to stop accidental presses. It has an emergency/panic button on the back and you can set up emergency contacts and the sending of location to contacts. Downsides, you cant change the ringtone, put a photo on the wallpaper (really minor). The external screen doesn't show who is calling, so if you have activated flip to answer, the phone user wont know who is calling before they decide to answer. Otherwise an excellent phone that is easy to use and comes with an instruction booklet.

Just wanted to say that I am really enjoying this phone. Has everything I need. Really like the hotspot wi-fi app.

Gave this to my dad and he finds it easy to use. The buttons are wide enough apart for shakeing hands, the interface is intuitive , the touch screen helps, and the SOS button is an excellent feature. He really likes the charging dock.

Got this for elderly relative who rarely uses is. After 12 months of very little use, the battery is depleting fast and the charger is unreliable.

Highly recommended for people who want a user friendly phone
