Actually pretty fun

The story is good and connects well with XY, and everything feels modern and fresh. Great fast-paced battle system, new mega evolutions, and runs smoothly (even on switch 1).

There are some good elements of the game, but the story

There are some good elements of the game, but the story isn’t that great, the map is too small, and the world graphics and DLC are trash.

Fun Game

Won't win any awards for graphics or anything like that. But the gameplay is super fun and refreshing compared to other Pokemon games. The story is actually interesting as well. I'm still having a blast playing this game, even though the push for a specific item is more of a chore than anything :(

Amazing game

One of the best Pokemon games ever, but the map is not as big as previous games.

Looks like garbage, decently fun though

Yeah, the world looks like rubbish. I've seen better environments from PS2 games. This game is not a looker, and you should be right to expect more from Game Freak and the world's largest media franchise. That being said, it's still fun. Real time combat is a nice breath of fresh air, and the characters from this game are probably the most interesting and compelling ones I've seen for a long time in a Pokemon game. Not bad to pick up on a sale.

Good game

Overall I get the game a five star. Couldn't really find much things I didn't like about it. I really enjoyed playing it

Incredible

Amazing game. All fun, no filler. It has the best bits of the early pokemon games but with modern graphics, a cool storyline and good gameplay.

Great game but with flaws

The game has fun and interesting parts I really liked however it's a " 50 / 50 " case game for me . The graphics is great and has a interesting battle mechanic but I feel like this game was a bit rushed / under cooked so there would be a new game while the next mainline game is getting in development . It isn't a awful game but it won't be holding my attention for 300+ hours or for year/s maybe when on sale it will be a better purchase ( and better value for the price )

Most Anime Like Pokémon Game!

Great story, awesome seeing new megas why yes the graphics aren't 4k ultra HD realistic but it's Pokémon I'm here to catch pokemon not stare at the flat window graphic. 10/10 fun

Legends Z-A: it's not good, but it's not all-bad

I was sceptical about this game. There's no getting around (or making excuses for) how poor the overworld looks. If it weren't Pokémon IP, nobody would buy this unapologetic slop from Gamefreak. However... the core gameplay IS fun. Here's my objective review after having played for ~20hrs. THE GOOD: - The closest Pokemon has come yet to feeling like you're playing "in the anime". - New battling system adds greater pace to the combat than previous entries. - Surprisingly, interiors (of which there aren't many) do actually look pretty good. - Side quests are simple, but abundant throughout the city. - Some story beats and characters were quite amusing and more memorable than previous entries. - EXP isn't as easy to come by, which is a good thing. It's definitely more challenging than mainline games, unless you go out of your way to overlevel. THE BAD: - The 'on rails' tutorial lasts for ~1.5hrs of gameplay, in which you're unable to play freely. - The main story lacks any meaningful stakes; I didn't feel like there was any plot progression taking place. - The overworld looks like a PS2 game from 2001; it's actually a joke in 2025. You can cross the entire playable map in a couple of minutes on foot, or run its circumference in 7mins. - Wild Pokémon areas are incredibly limited and uninspired, with only ~230 Pokemon available in the game altogether. The complete opposite of Legends Arceus, which encouraged exploration, vast zones and plenty of catching. ZA features 20, very small wild areas that contain ~7 Pokemon each, of which can be caught in a matter of seconds, as most wild zones barely extend 20m in length. - Battling "Rogue Mega Evolved Pokemon" as part of the story/side quests started fun, but quickly became very tedious. These are Souls-like encounters where the boss takes almost no damage outside of your own mega evolved attacks, and targets YOU instead of your Pokemon. The button mapping is awkward here, as you need to hold the trigger to issue a Pokemon command, but also need to constantly dodge the boss (which requires no trigger being held). - Battling trainers in the overworld often has your Pokemon snagged on objects, ledges, or other environmental objects - it's annoying. - Constant cutscenes... for everything! But the worst offender is a cutscene when the game's day/night cycle switches. If you were battling or shiny hunting, this cutscene effectively stops you in your tracks and resets the environment. - Player movement is limited to running. There are no rideable Pokemon and no interesting ways to traverse the environment. - There's still no voice acting, and there really should be. - Limited interiors, however the interiors that do exist did exceed my expectations (the Museum was a standout). OVERALL: I've played around 20hrs. The first hour was a drag, but then things really picked up and I found the game very enjoyable (looking past the awful graphics). After hour 10, gameplay started to become repetitive, to the point where I didn't care about battling another Mega or grinding more trainer battles at night (which become sneak-attack one-shots for the most part). There's something to Legends ZA that works, but it's too mired down in its own mediocrity to let those ideas truly take hold. Fun? Yes. Worth $70-100+? Absolutely not.

Great game!

Genuinely such a fun game. The new mechanics, the story, even the seemingly “small” map was absolutely perfect- as a big time Pokémon fan, definitely in my top 3.

Amazing lead up from XY

My entire childhood has passed since I played XY back on my 3DS, and now being 20, this game has resurfaced my once love for Pokemon games. I came into this game with the lowest expectations. From the barely any official news leading up to the game to the absolutely horrendous selection of starters, it left me feeling should I really get this. On top of this, I felt so disappointed with Sw/Sh and S/V that it left me lost with the future of Pokemon games, but this game absolutely rekindled that blaze that the little guy inside me once had. The brand new gameplay is absolutely amazing, sure it has some flaws and is a bit buggy sometimes but they definitely did an amazing job with it. Being able to mega evolve multiple times in one battle for the exchange of a mega timer was an absolutely amazing idea and worked really well with the Battle Royale system that played at night (although the transition to night is annoying). Story-wise, it genuinely feels like the Z game that we all thought was coming to 12 years ago, and definitely touches on the future of AZ and Team Flare’s conclusion. Wild Zones are a brand new thing as well, and at first was a bit Meh, but felt a lot more rewarding and was way more fun with the rooftops and scaffolding around the map. The game runs absolutely amazing on the Switch 2, I had maybe a little drop of FPS in the final mission (no spoilers), but overall really impressed with the final product (I know the switch version lacks a lot though). My only big issue was the exclusion of the Hoenn Starters and Legendaries as I was hoping to bring over my Sceptile from back in ORAS (and Pokemon Home not having support till 2026, which is both good and bad). I highly recommend this game to anyone that has played XY and equally loves the Mega system. And I’m no longer salty over the fact that B/W didn’t get remakes lmao

A mixed experience

While the real time battle system is great for PvP, it's just too spammy & clunky in its execution to be worthwhile for anybody not going in for the multiplayer battle mode. Also cutscenes are as jarring as ever with zero voice acting in this game (apart from player grunts).

Horrible Graphics and boring world

I was so exicted for this game. I was expecting Nintendo to listen to the critism from sword and shield and scarlet and violet. Nope, the graphics are WORSE than the last games and the enviroment is so boring it's the same copy and pasted buildings and it's NINTENDO MADE A BETTER GAME 12 YEARS AGO WITH POKEMON X AND Y AND THEY HAD AN EXCUSE TO BE LAZY THEY WERE TRANSITIONING FROM 2D TO 3D THIS GAME HAS NO EXCUSE TO BE THIS BAD. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT AND SUPPORT THIS COMPANY.

Never-ending cutscene are stifling!

The overwhelming amount of cutscene and handhold is painful and designed for 5 year olds and not the wide fan base like pokemon legends arceus. It has some redeeming qualities like real-time battleing but you can't enjoy them buried under all the cutscenes.

Legends Z-A Review

For the 3 Years of no games coming out (asides DLC), this has so far been an amazing game to play. The switch 2 makes it that bit better and am in love with the story!
