Overview Today, many amplifiers do not have a specific phono cartridge input. Phono Box E is an ideal phono preamplifier for these hi-fi systems. Phono Box E accepts MM (moving magnet) cartridges and offers an audiophile music experience at an entry-level price. Advanced circuitry and SMD construction keep noise and distortion at a surprisingly low level. A built-in internal shielding and an outboard DC power supply leave no risk for external interference.  Because of its small casing, Phono Box E can be placed near the turntable. Input and output sockets are gold-plated for preservation of quality. Phono Box E can be connected easily to a line-input (AUX etc) of your amplifier.  Key Features Gold plated RCA connections Green' DC power supply using less than 1 watt when in standby mode Internal metal shielding - to reduce any interference coming through the speakers Compact size makes it discrete and easy to install Outboard power supply included Precise amplification and equalisation certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) Details Width - 120mmDepth - 115mmHeight - 32mmWeight - 250 grams2 year warranty

A great Turntable Pre Amp

The Phono Box E is a great little pre amp. I upgraded my surround sound amp and realised it didn't have a low impedance input for me to plug my turntable into. This is a simple solution where you can plug it into any unbalanced RCA input on the amp and works a treat.

Great for old turntables with New amps.

Does what it's designed to do -- nothing else but that. Over priced for an electronic device.

I was able to connect it easily to the existing stereo system. Easy to install.

This pre amp is da bomb

Extremely large sound from such a little box. If you are looking for a pre amp that doesn't break the bank and gives a great sound the this is it

Pretty Decent

It does the job, and it does it well. Definitely helped with cable management too. Just make sure to buy another RCA cable if this is your first Phono.

Works well

I brought this to get a phono player up and running so I could listen to old style records. The system works well and I am happy with it. The music is clear with no interference and if running this in a small room then it will work well and be all you need. I just wish I had spent a little bit more and got one with an equaliser included.

Simple and Effective

I have been using this little preamp for a number of weeks now and I now feel somewhat qualified to give my mini review. The Pro-Ject Phono Box E is sold in a very plain looking box and I do wonder if they restyled the packaging whether they would sell more instore? The preamp itself is smaller and lighter than I was expecting. It is very discreet and you should have no problems finding a space for it. It is easy to hook up however I had a lot of problems eliminating hum. The basic instructions offered no solutions that helped me. I have not experienced any problems with grounding my turntable before, so is the ground on the Pro-Ject preamp actually doing anything? Eventually I solved the hum problem by running the ground wire from my turntable to the preamp and then another wire from the preamp to the metal chassis of my receiver. After that I have had no problems. I must mention that Pro-Ject advertises that the terminals are gold plated. They aren't. They look to be nickel plated brass. Another thing of note is that the preamp is always on. There is no momentary switch to turn it off. It consumes very little power however I would have liked the option. The preamp itself, once setup works a treat. I immediately noticed an increase in bass and gain over my old one. Music is crisp, pleasant and ever so slightly 'warm' to the ear. For the price I can't really fault it.

All you need for a MM cartridge

Years ago when my last receiver was fried with an electrical surge, my replacement did not have a phono jack as they were considered passe by then. Reluctantly I put my AR Turntable away for a decade. Years later I found this Phono Box, and out came my AR Turntable and its Sure V15 cartridge. The phono box is very compact and can fit into a small space. It works just as advertised. One set of leads in, and another set out into the receiver RCA jacks. Now I am a happy LP listener enjoying the tactile experience once again.

Excellent pre-amp for existing 1990's turntable

Literally Just plug and play - power cord also included - Only needed to also purchase the RCA plugs - to connect (left and right channel rca plug into the pre-amp "out" into the Aux input on the mini hi fi. - and done.. Very Happy with sound volume and quality from the European/Austrian Product.

Great sound

For a little more money this had a fantastic sound for an entry level pre amp.

Great

Replaced my el cheapo and slightly dodgy pre amp with this. Easy to install. And the sound. Oh the sound was warm and rich I had to readjust the settings on my stereo. Only issue I have is that the included power cord is a little short.

Good quality

Got this with my Pro-next turntable. It is a massive step up with sound quality especially after relying on the on board pre amp on my old turntable. This is a must for any home hifi enthusiast
