Exceeds expectations, this is a great lens for the price!
This is my go to lens for portraits. It's small, light and compact and works perfectly every time.
Bought it one month ago and it is still in good working
Purchased this one a week ago and for the price it is well worth it
Bought this lens to get a cheap 50mm I should have just saved a while and bought something better. The autofocus is slow and loud, in it's defense it is an older lens and cheap so kinda got what I payed for.

Brought a month ago and I am very happy with it...
I’m definitely getting a GM lens in the near future.
I bought this a couple of months ago and it was the first lens I got for my SONY A7III. It's perfect for portraits as well as landscape photography. Its low light performance capability is immaculate. If you are to use it with videography, it does a really good job to that price point. The only drawback I see is it's slow focus breath
I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews about the lens and was expecting very ordinary images. But I’ve been very pleased with the results I’ve had. Expect that autofocus is slow and the barrel is plasticky. It’s a low cost lens after all. But the image quality is quite good for a day to day amateur photographer - i.e. 95% of photographers.
Great len, working so great the only thing you can't zoom. But other than that len did it's job.
The little nifty fifty really lives up to its name, it has been a very versatile and amzinging little lens, while it does not have stablization built into it...it has a manual focus ring which really allows you to get hands on in manual mode. And if you reverse the lens in front of your camera you actually get a macro lense too....I would not use this feature outdoors as you don't have that tight seal as you would when you attached lens right way, but inside getting those close shots it's a cool feature. But all in all its an amazing lens that captures great portrait style photos and makes you move around and get into your environment and makes you work. And it does amazing black and whites. Thanks sony for a great little prime lense.
I had this lens for a few weeks now and it is a pretty good budget lens. the autofocus is really nice and the aperture is really good for portrait photography. The background blur from it is great. Overall Great budget prime lens
I wanted this lense since 3 months ago. And i purchased today and This lense met my expectation!
Its image quality is sharp enough for most casual photo enthusiasts. Just not enough for professional photographers. Great for snap street snap photos but being fixed lens you soon gonna want a zoom lens and wide angle lens.
Loving this lense for portraits, its easy to get a great bokeh effect in good lighting
Well made and fit for purpose Sony lens. I tend to use these sort of fixed focal point lenses for both portrait and general photography. When using it under the right conditions it takes fantastic photos
Very well made , versatile and exactly what I was looking for..
I have it with me for 9 months now and I still think this is a very versatile lens for not just portrait shooting but products and sceneries as well. Multiple occasions when my 24-105mm lens is not fast enough to capture low light scenes and it just makes it in ease.
It is my first Sony a7c using this lens and impress with the portraits shots with bokeh backgrounds however there is noticeable mechanical sound when lens trying to focus and slight delay as well but overall experience using this lens is good and recommended for beginners like me to explore prime lens taking portrait shots
The auto-focus seems to keep searching when in video mode, for photo's its no real issue but when recording video the internal microphone picks up the noise which was frustrating. Unfortunately I returned it due to this.
I have used it with my NEX5n and now using it for A6000. It is a great prime lens for Potraits. It is crisp and photo quality is great. Everyone loves pictures from it. A must for mirrorless Camera owners.
The SEL50F18 is Sonys attempt at a 50mm portrait lens for the E-mount line up of cameras. And they've done a great job. It's a very capable lens - both in image quality and low light. It is perhaps the sharpest lens I own for my Nex-5R. If you are willing to sacrifice a little bit of the image quality, you can also have some surprisingly good low light shots using not much shutter speed. It is a great lens to leave on the camera all day and wander around town with. The only downsides are its value for money and also its focal length. Bang for your buck, you can do better for less with a different lens at the expense of image quality and focal ratio. As for the focal length, it can make it a pain indoors for example to use (35mm equivalent is 75mm). Overall for the money, it is a great little lens if you're after a sharp lens and can deal with the 50mm. It'd make a great addition to your lens selection.
Having gotten used to the kit lens, it was time to branch out and that meant getting a portrait lens for that all-so-important bokeh that everyone looks for! After reviewing several sample images and opinions about what lens to get, I settled on finding a 50mm portrait lens and got myself the SEL50F18. What a great lens! Images are noticeably cleaner than the kit lens, and the f1.8 aperture makes for positively amazing low-light images. The detail in the subject along with the smoothness of the bokeh in the background is so easy to achieve with minimal effort in shot setup. Auto Focus is reasonably quick and in DMF mode, getting bokeh in the foreground and background is easily attained with plenty of adjustment in the manual focus ring. Construction of the lens is good too. Metal, lightweight, a little on the slippery side when new, but otherwise a tidy package. You get a lens cap for either end plus a hood to eliminate glare from the sun. The SEL50F18 is currently available quite cheap from some camera stores compared to RRP, even cheaper than new units from eBay! The only real con is the simple fact that there is no zoom, but that's why they invented legs to move you closer or further away from the subject. Of course no portrait lens has zoom, but when you learn how to position yourself, you'll probably find that you don't need it. If you've never used a portrait lens before, then this is the one to get. Cheap, reliable and produces some seriously tasty images. Highly recommended.
I bought this lens, only to find that the top glass of the lens is not leveled. I could see that the thickness of the black ring just on top of the glass was not even - at one side was around 1 mm and the other was around 2 mm. I returned the lens and went to another shop to check the same 50mm 1.8 E mount lens. The issue is less serious, but still exist. The issue may be due to the black ring thickness, or the top glass is not leveled - one side is higher than the other side. If that is the glass issue, it means that the glass is not perpendicular to the axis. Of course, I have no instrument to measure.
