Sunbeam Cafe Style 4 Slice Sandwich Press & Grill

Shame there's no zero star option - sandwiches are black on the outside cold inside burnt before the butter melts, our old sunbeam didn't have this issue they need to change back to the old thermostat, & the any height control on mine is very fickle sometimes it works but other times pressing the lock lever causes the top plate to lift, I'll be taking it back & switching brands. just a nuisance.

For some reason this product takes 3.5 seconds to reach temperatures usually reserved for the surface of the sun. The any height lever is great but it burns the bread to a blackened husk before the cheese gets a chance to melt. I know that I have to plug it into a power point but one can only assume that it utilises the splitting of an atom to reach such high temps. Not for faint hearted

There is no temperature control. It burns things unless you turn it off and on

Hard to cook on because it just keeps getting hotter and hotter. It burns the outside before the inside of a sandwich melts. I would not recommend

We bought our sunbeam sandwich press a while ago now, am tired of persisting with trying to get a satisfactory result on something as simple as a toastie. Have gone back to cooking them in a frypan. The bread takes forever to brown, the inside consistently leaks and burns your mouth out. No, l do not recommend this product at all.

I have tried other brands but nothing comes close to the Sunbeam sandwich maker . Heats quickly, evenly browns the bread both sides & melts the cheese inside perfectly everytime. Adjustable height is an added bonus for unusual shapes like croissants

This sandwich press is a must have item in the kitchen! Generous size yet not as heavy as some of the other brands. Super easy to use and cooks evenly. Toasties are golden brown even with a layer of grease proof paper as I'm too lazy to clean.

Great toasted sandwich maker - always come out perfect! Also used for bacon and eggs - bacon was great, cooking on both sides halved the time; eggs were a little overdone, but just need more practice! Thought it would be difficult to remove the stuck-on bacon and eggs - but a damp sheet of kitchen roll did the job in no time! Like that I can lock the lid in any position from closed to fully open. Fast heatup - less than 2 minutes! Cord storage is good, as is ability to store appliance on its end.

I cook pretty much everything on it. It does a great job & it's easy to clean. I love it.

Pretty good sandwich press. I say pretty good because it states it's 4 slice but it is a very tight fit to fit 4 slices in with the over size of most breads these days and if you do do 4 slices the heating element doesn't seem to extend to all the edges so whilst it does 4 slices, it doesn't do them all well. The stand up feature is nice and it cooks well and fast if doing 2 slices but most sandwich presses claiming to be 4 slice seem to be about the same size these days. Just because you can do 4 doesn't mean you should do 4

Very impressed! Quick to cook either toasties or bread rolls. They’re ready in around 2 minutes which is fantastic! I had an older version of this product which lasted over 15 years. I love the lock down handle so you can compact the sandwiches down using even the thickest bread. Great product, I recommend highly to all.

Awesome unit! Light and compact, it’s easier to move around and so easier to use, and the “any level” lever means you can melt and toast perfectly!

Put bread slices, eggs, ham and tomato slices separatelly all at the same time, cook, combine and you got a great meal. This one is big enough for that! Works great, heats up quickly and does all the preparations in less time. The locking mechanism for the top part is great when you want to melt cheese or make eggs. Cleaning has never been easier, just wipe it of with a damp cloth or paper towel. Thats it. We love this device! I highly recommend it.

Fantastic product the last one lasted 20yrs, no loss of non stick perfect from the first sandwich

This model is great as you can lock the floating top at any height. I also love that I can stand it up on the side for storing it, to save space.

This is a fantastic sandwich press, I love the big stone like slab. This was super quick and a breeze to clean no effort what so-ever. Just clean with chux while hot clean and clean as .

This sandwich maker is perfect for families, it is effortless for making 4 burgers at a time. It is a good size sandwich maker. We are happy with the adjustable height control function. It is easy to clean after use compared to our previous traditional sandwich maker. Quality built, modern looking and good size. We've tried it for hash brown, muffin, toast bread, fried eggs and even fish balls. The heats spread evenly and quickly too.

Started the carnivore diet last month and thought this would be great addition for early morning breakfasts instead of firing up the BBQ everyday. Perfect for eggs, bacon and sausages. Heats up almost instantly and the clean up after is literally a case of giving it a couple of wipes with some kitchen towel. The speed of use and ease of cleaning has even led to me cooking a few steaks on the it in the evening (which I would normally consider blasphemous). But the additional heat plate on top actually gives an even sear on both sides and essentially cooks the steak twice as fast. Now my missus is in on the act. She likes to put half the fridge in her toasted sandwiches so previous sandwich makers never worked for her and she would end up using the oven. But the AnyHeight control is a game changer for her as she gets perfect even toasting without compromising the "structure" of the sandwich. Only regret is that I didn't get the 4 or 6 slice to allow me cook more at once, although when you live in a Sydney apartment, space is at a premium.

Tried the 4-slice sandwich press and maker in it’s obvious way - for a grilled cheese toastie and then as a pan, making some eggs with baked beans. Quite happy with it, the lid works well and it was really easy to clean afterwards. Happy that I went for 4 pieces, making it easier to cook up a few things at once (think brekkie board with eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms). Pretty much makes the frying pan redundant! Haven’t used it for long yet, but seems quite sturdy as well as practical to store (an upright position is helpful).

I really love this sandwich press! You can definitely see and feel that it is a good quality press. I love the large surface area to fit more than you normally would on other presses and the non-stick coating means it's easy to cook and easier to clean!

Great value compared to other brands, the lever work very well. So no flat sandwiches anymore . JB are very good at having stock during the Apocalypse which is always a good thing. JB Robina is awesome.

I like to have the top lid fixed open so it doesn’t sit on my food, particularly my open cheese sandwiches! The Lid Hold on this machine actually works and I love it. I’ve also tried using it like a frypan for my steaks and it works surprisingly well. Much easier than using the stove

We are super happy with how convenient and fast mealtime and clean up can be with the product. The product was very easy to use and handle as the level adjustment doubles to lock the plates securely and the standing feature allowed it to be moved around easily. A nice compact size for our bench top. The lid does feel like it will tip backwards sometimes when opened. I like that the bottom plate is deep enough to contain spills. The stand feature is great but it tilts slightly so worry whether it’s steady enough to remain standing. I think this café grill with the added feature above makes it just so versatile and indispensable in the kitchen really. We cooked steak and bean Sprouts on it. Simple and easy. There wasn’t an even browning on the bottom because of excess water but the top could have browned more if the meat were of similar height. Otherwise it was just a matter of getting used to it to get the best out of it. The bean sprout were a breeze to cook. Toast and toasted peanuts came out great too. Heats up quick and depending on what you are cooking its done in a flash really. Clean up was done in a matter of minutes. I like that it was also lightweight and that it had a great handle that was easy to grip. Overall a great versatile product.

I have owned a sandwich press for many years, it was looking worse for wear, so my daughter bought me the new 4 slice Sunbeam sandwich press. What I like about this sandwich press that I didn’t have on my old one was the fact that this can be stored away standing up, doesn’t have to be stored flat, this now gives me extra space in my storage draw. I also like the any heigh control lever. I have made Wraps and French toast in this so far. I was amazed at how quickly the unit heated up, and how quickly it cooked. The French toast cooked in no time, I didn’t have to wait for one side to cook and then turn to cook the other as I do in my frypan, I placed the French toast straight onto the plate, no butter or oil required, closed the top and within a minute it was cooked, amazing result. Then I just used a dish cloth to wipe over. Recommend this unit.
