Cooks really well but the handles get hot, which makes this cooker hard to carry, also the little indicator on light is barely visible. Fix these things and Sunbeam will have a very good apparatus.
I have cooked 3 pork shoulders in this for pulled pork dinners. It has been set to low and a pork shoulder should only take 8hrs on slow to pull properly. Each time I have cooked for 10hrs and the pork should does not pull. Such a waste of money spent on me at. The meat I have purchased has come from 3 different suppliers so it isn't the meats fault. This cooker is obviously not a good slow cooker. I cannot and will not recommend buying this slow cooker. Highly disappointed.
Got this as a gift a month ago to replace our previous slow cooker. The outside of this cooker gets so very hot while the inside seems to take an age to cook the food. The lid doesn’t fit very snuggly either. My previous slow cooker only ever got mildly warm to the touch. Pretty disappointed.
Needed this slow cooker for winter night meals to make casseroles and not burn them
Heat on side very hot. Handles quite warm to hold. Burn on arm after accidentally touching side.
I bought this slow cooker couple of weeks ago, and I tried to use it couple of time without success. The slow cooker get hot outside, but the inside pot still warm, never get hot, impossible to cook anything. Really disappointed
This slow never seems to get hot enough every time I use it no matter how long it is on my food never cooks through.
Buy the big one so you can make heaps and then separate into meals and freeze them
I bought this product recently and tried it for the first time on Saturday 27/08/22. The appliance worked well, but there are 4 bits of important information missing from the operating manual. There are no temperature measurements for either heat setting. i.e. What are the temperatures for "Low", "High" and "Keep Warm"?. I had to contact Sunbeam, to get these, as these are important. Low is 87'C, High is 90'C (yes only 3'C difference) and Keep Warm fluctuates between 62'C to 74'C. The other missing information, is the actual weight of the crock insert, because you really need to know this, so that you can accurately calculate the estimated cooking time and heat setting. The crock insert weight is 3.495Kgs (say 3.5Kgs, with lid on, 4.2Kgs). I have now bought some kitchen scales, so that I can weigh my crock insert when full with whatever is placed in it. I bought scales measuring up to 15Kgs, but I suggest kitchen scales measuring to at least 10Kgs. When you measure/weigh the filled crock insert, you then know your total cooking weight and so you can then fairly accurately guess the correct cooking time and heat setting. I hope this helps in eliminating the under cooked and over cooked food.
Just bought this appliance and as of yet I've not used it, but I'm sure it will be a great product. There are 4 essential bits of information missing in the Instruction/Recipe Booklet, that are necessary, to work out successful cooking time. Firstly, what is the Low heat temperature?. (87'C) Secondly, what is the High temperature?. (90'C) Thirdly, what is the Keep Warm temperature? (62'C to 74'C) I just had to ring the Sunbeam helpline to get the temperatures shown in the brackets. I'm surprised there is only 3'C temperature difference between Low and High?. Couldn't find out the weight of the Crock Insert, so I'll have to go and buy some kitchen scales. You need to know the Crocks weight, because you generally only know the weight of the meat you are putting in for cooking. When you add vegetables and sauces and water etc,, you then have an unknown total cooking weight, but you can work it out to some degree, if you knew the weight of the Crock when empty (and when full). I hope this helps and if someone can supply the Crock weight, it would be greatly appreciated.
We have had this for years and used it often to great effect. That said we wanted to cook Gillette's and needed to know roughly the temperature setting for keep warm, low and high. nothing on the website to assist us so it looks like using the inner crock pot in the oven will give us the best outcome. I would have thought that temp was important rather than ambiguous settings. High marks for the product, low for the website information on the product.
I just used it once but very happy with it. I recommend it.
For the price, it works exactly as it should. Big capacity, and cooks food slowly!
Don't know why I didn't purchase this sooner. So good, so affordable ad so easy to clean. 5 stars
I bought this a month or so ago and have used it lots already. Simple but easy to use and super effective.
Good for a few months and did the job, cooked some great meals. However while cooking the crock pot cracked which was strange. I expect this is a rare occurrence however the pot is less then 12 months old and now need to find a replacement crock pot. :(
For the price this Slow Cooker is adequate for cooking most meals.
I bought this as a replacement and have found it great value for money. Does the job well and is a good size.
I upgraded to this amazing slow cooker and let me tell you it is phenomenal! So flipping big holds enough food for 10-12 people easily I would say. Cooks meat to perfection I’ve used it a handful of times since I purchased and it has not failed.
I bought this as my first slow cooker and couldnt be happier. Told my mum about it so she wanted the same one as her mothers day present. Very happy with purchase!
I brought it to have slow cooked meals that were tender, i've only used it twice and both times the food was dry. I did follow instructions.
I thoroughly enjoyed my slow cooker since the day I bought it however, I am really dissapointed in the product. A month or two after the waranty expired (just over a year) it tripped the electricity of the house and from then on the frying part did not work. I was able to slow cook, but could not fry or sear any food beforehand. For the price I paid I expected better quality.
This slow cooker is so good I’ve bought a second one as I use it daily, the price is fantastic it’s simple to use and always works well , clean up is amazingly easy , the insert and lid are dishwasher safe , and roast meat and casserole comes out amazing each and every time I throughly recommend this slow cooker size is 5.5 liters , please note the outside of the unit the stainless steel housing gets very hot so stand it on a heat safe surface and always place it away from little peoples fingers and of course your own , with that said fantastic value for money and wonderful food
purchased this 14 mths ago as our first slow cooker ... Plug at the slow cooker end now gets VERY hot during use to the stage that dont want to use it anymore due to concerns . When cooker is turned off , can not touch cooker end as it is that hot ... Is a fire danger . SUNBEAM feel free to contact me
This product not only gets unbelievably hot on the sides, it burns within a split second. Keep children and unsuspecting adults away. I can't believe that Sunbeam thought this was a quality product and fit for sale. See other reviews elsewhere. Mine, it's going to the garbage bin. If this product passed a safety review as part of it's quality review, then questions should be asked.
I bought this product recently to replace my old Crockpot, cooks well but like other user states it gets very hot on the outside & seems to be very hot on the low setting. I am just glad that I don't have any young children in the house, as I would be afraid they would get badly burnt if they touched outside of this product, it certainly gave me a "wake up call" when I touched it by accident.
I bought this product to replace a slow cooker we had for nearly 20 years. What a step backward this has been. The external base gets so hot we have had to use an insulated mat to stop it damaging our bench top. The temperature control appears to not work satisfactorily as it still is cooking at a high temperature on the low setting. All in all our 20 year old slow cooker was a better product.
I have had this model for quite some time. It is very straight forward to use and easily cleaned. Meals always turn out fantastic, my family loves my Beef Carbonnade which I make with beer! Only negative is you have to manually switch to "Keep Warm". I have been looking to upgrade to the HP8555 which has automatic Keep Warm on cooking completion and also has the sear function for browning the meat prior to slow cooking (much less mess in the kitchen).
